I've only been live for just over 24 hours and I already have a flock of adoring fans, who knew?!

Firstly, thank you kindly for sharing this blog and joining me on my journey of mischief and excitement over the forthcoming election period. Big thank you to my new friends at LS Radio for spreading the word multiple times today!

Let's talk about today's HOT TOPIC, yes, I am a Partridge fan. Clue? Perhaps. This HOT TOPIC being my identity.

In the running so far..

EDIT: 20/02/12 01:24 Apologies for the misspelt/ incorrect names. Bad gossiper.

LOVE xoxo

*******************************

Allow me to speculate about who I think might be running this year...

First, let's look at our current student officers...

Maev McDaid - President

Will Ms McDaid be rerunning for President? Sources close to the feisty Irish sprite say no but, despite a few controversial decisions that have caused a few waves amongst some students, she remains popular and I think she could still offer a lot to the Guild, so watch this space...

Josh Wright - Deputy President

Sadly, thanks to that pesky Education Act of '93, and John Major, Josh will not be eligible to re-stand for election this year, which is a shame as he's always been a firm favourite amongst students and staff. Allegedly he currently works part-time for the University, so maybe he is planning to follow in Paddy Stern's footsteps by slipping over there once his Union days are over?

Bob Sutton - Vice President

The self professed (see @bobsutton89) king of the jogging bottom and trainer combo, has not announced whether he is planning to re-stand for election, although my sources tell me that he is no longer a student at the University of Liverpool, so is he really able to represent us? That said, he has led a strong resistance against the Government this year and has forged excellent links with trade unions and local and national anti-cuts groups.

Ruth Brewer - Vice President

Ms Brewer claims she is not rerunning for election, but I have heard rumours that she may still submit a nomination. The Guild has been rife with rumours of a rift between her and McDaid and she has been conspicuous by her absence over the last few months. However, I suppose only time, and whether mummy and daddy (or the Labour Party) have another cool £1000 to give to her campaign again, will tell whether we'll see this ardent feminist and Blairite darken the doors of LGoS next year.

While I have no solid proof that any incumbent officers are restanding, it is all very much to play for in these elections. Let's now take a look at the new kids on the block, plotting their takeover of our union...

Maggie Hayes

Very disappointingly Maggie unsuccessfully ran for election last year. However, I can confirm that she is definitely back with a vengeance this year, and will stop at nothing to claim one of the places. When I say stop at nothing, I mean she's determined, not that she will go around killing off other candidates or anything. While this blog is sort of unbiased, I really wish Maggie all the best and, as one of the Guild's key activists, think she'd be a real asset. She is also rumoured to have the backing of former Deputy President Paddy Stern, so that should put some wind in the sails of her campaign.

Sam Butler

Sam Butler, too, has confirmed he has put his hat in the ring for this year's presidential race. The statesman-like thespian apparently has the backing of Ruth Brewer - perhaps putting paid to rumours of her restanding - and if her campaign is anything to go by we'll be seeing plenty of this handsome face around campus! In all seriousness, Sam has shown a great deal of dedication and leadership in the Guild this year, so should not be underestimated or overlooked by any means.

Alex Parmar-Yee

A personal favourite of mine as he's such a sweet and friendly chap. Having been successful in the Trustee elections last year, Alex is taking his career in student politics to the next level. As an active member of LS Radio, PhotoSoc and many other societies I cannot remember, he seems to be in a very strong position this year.

Charlotte Nichols

Carnatic shop girl, Charlotte Nichols, could be very well placed for this year's elections if she runs. Having obtained more votes than both Ruth and Bob last year, she clearly has the campaigning knowledge and expertise to take her far in this election. She has not confirmed or denied whether or not she will be standing, but if I was one of the other candidates - who knows, maybe I am - I would be apprehensive about facing this most fearsome and formidable of opponents.

Luke Staunton

Very vocal on the anti-cuts and pro-palestine lobby, Luke has been very active in the Guild this year. My inclusion of him on this list is merely out of personal speculation and not based on any rumour or fact. The MNAFC have been oddly silent on their candidates for this year, having supported both Maev and Bob last year, so if Bob does not rerun, perhaps Luke is their man?

Sam Van Geffen

Current student trustee and former Guild fanatic, Sam van Guild, I mean Geffen, has denied he is running, but I still wish to speculate. This smooth operating Lothario, charmed his way into pole position in the Trustee elections last year, so perhaps he will be deploying the big guns -his eyes- in the elections this year?

Padraig McNamara

Rumoured to be considering running this year. Padraig is a current Student Trustee, an active society member and all round excellent student activist. An old timer at the university who could rally his group of loyal friends and supporters to really go far in this election?

Tom Bee

Best friend of Alex P-Y, Tom Bee has declared he is running for election. This full-time ladies' man, part time Engineering student will be trying to woo you into voting for him over the next few weeks, watch out!

Andrew Shearwood

Arguably the driving force and X-Factor behind Maev's winning campaign last year, will Andrew take the opportunity to use that campaigning knowledge to place himself in the running this year? I hope so.

Chris Wardle

Chair of council, active member of band soc and all round good guy, Chris has confirmed he will be running for president this year. As Josh's main man during the elections last year, I wonder whether Josh will be backing him this year? If so, I hope Chris will spare us from the bright yellow!

Rongyan Chen

I have heard that former LGoS intern and councillor Rongyan will be running for president. Has LGoS ever had an international student officer? Or has it always been white, middle class kids, hanging out being massive careerists? I would love to see Rongyan elected as 1. She's a right laugh and 2. She'd do a right good job of it too!

Leigh-Angel Bevan

While Leigh has not openly declared herself as a candidate,  several people have told me that Leigh will be running for President of LGoS this year. The chair of BandSoc, and organiser of the monthly cross-society socials that never actually materialised, is yet to confirm whether she will be going head to head with Band Soc comrade Chris Wardle, but I will certainly be voting for her if she dons her 24 Festival Drums garb for the duration of the election period.

Emma Lynch

Again, my listing Emma is mere speculation based on a few rumours I have heard. Ms Lynch has been a dedicated student Councillor, society member and Guild volunteer, however, my last updates from sources tell me she will be supporting Maggie, so I will update this when I hear more!

Please keep checking back for more updates and gossip, as and when I have it!

Peace out,
